This Crunchy French Toast recipe takes a beloved breakfast staple and adds an irresistible crunch. By coating the eggy bread in crispy rice cereal before frying, you get a wonderful contrast of textures – the soft, custardy inside and the delightfully crisp exterior. Brioche or challah bread works particularly well for soaking up the egg mixture while maintaining its structure. 1

Ingredients

  • 4 slices brioche or challah

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 T cream

  • 2 T powdered sugar, divided

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

  • 2 cups rice crispies

  • butter


Preparation

Step 1


Whisk the eggs, cream, vanilla, powdered sugar and salt. Put rice crispies on a plate with a pinch of salt. Heat butter to foamy in a non stick skillet. Once water sprayed in skillet sizzles dip your bread in the egg quickly followed by a dip in the rice crispies until fully coated. Place in pan immediately followed by the remaining slices.


Fry 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Top with sprinkled powdered sugar.
